1798 S$1 Small Eagle, 13 Stars Fine 15 PCGS. B-1, BB-82, R.3. Die State III. Reiver State b. Seven stars right; paired berries below left side of first S. This die state with extensive reverse die cracks is also known as Bolender-1a. Attractive pewter-gray surfaces with darker gray color at the borders, and lighter silver-gray devices. The usual scattered abrasions are evident on each side. The obverse has a small mark on the bridge of Liberty's nose. This is truly a transitional variety, as the obverse die was reused with a Heraldic Eagle reverse die. A point to ponder, and possibly the subject for an article: How many obverse or reverse dies within the entire scope of U.S. coinage were used for two different coinage design types?
Ex: Harry Laibstain (3/2003).
From The William Luebke Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
