<B>1798 S$1 Large Eagle, Wide Date VF35 NGC.</B></I> B-24, BB-124, R.2. Die State III. Reiver Die State b. Pointed 9, Line Star Pattern. Three die lines right of date; blundered reverse stars. The obverse is usually recognized by the three diagonal die lines (called cracks by Bolender) to the right of the date. The reverse has the middle stars in the top row partially overlapping the clouds. The obverse has light gray color with peripheral iridescence. The reverse has deeper ivory, golden-brown, and steel color. A light scratch is visible across Liberty's cheek, from the nose to the neck. This is one of the relatively common varieties of 1798, but it is highly popular due to its biannual reverse die, apparently the only reverse die that was used with obverse dies dated 1798 and 1799.<BR><I>Ex: I.
