<B>1798 S$1 Large Eagle, Wide Date VF20 NGC.</B></I> B-11b, BB-111, R.3. Die State VII. Reiver Die State c. Pointed 9, Arc Star Pattern. Delicate bottom curl; berry below left foot of final A. This is a late die state with an impressive obverse die break, among the most dramatic in the entire universe of early U.S. silver dollars. The earliest states of this variety have a mound or bulge near Liberty's chin, and this eventually developed into the die cracks seen here. The area between the two cracks at star 13 is raised (sunken in the die), with star 13 only faintly visible on this example. This example is a late die state, although not the terminal state of this variety. Die state specialists should note that this is a relatively common variety with a delightful progression through its die life. Dark olive and gold with brownish color along the borders.
