<B>1798 S$1 Large Eagle, Close Date VF35 PCGS.</B></I> B-31, BB-115, High R.4. Die State IV. Reiver Die State b (7). Pointed 9, Line Star Pattern. Digit 8 out of position, high and leaning slightly right; star 12 close to upper and lower beaks but touches neither. This example is a late state of the dies with a network of fine die cracks on the reverse, and it is this die state that is most often seen. Medium gray surfaces with hints of pale gold color and some additional hazy toning. A desirable example with pleasing surfaces. This die marriage is clearly not as rare as the others in the B-30 to B-33 subset of 1798 silver dollars, although it was once considered a major rarity.
