1798<S$1> Close Date. B-30, BB-116, R.4--Reverse Graffiti--NCS. XF Details. Digit 8 out of position, high and leaning slightly right; Top row stars all distant from clouds. Reiver die state b. Bowers-Borckardt die state VI. This is the Reiver plate coin for the reverse of this variety. Described in the Superior catalog as "More or less Extra Fine, lilac tone, lustrous, with one small obverse rim dent. One of about 4 or 5 top examples of this very rare and elusive variety, probably Rarity 6 Sheldon scale. A few scratches on reverse." The minor scratches are small initials "H" and "M", one in each field below the eagle's wings. The rim dent is located between the third and forth stars on the obverse. Still bright and reflective and attractive despite the minor problems. On this later die state, the reverse has completely shattered, there is a large lump above the first A of AMERICA to the rim, and several die cracks through the lettering and devices.
Ex: Superior's Dr. Charles Ruby Sale (February, 1974) lot 1465. Envelope Included.
