Bust Dollars 1798 Draped Bust. Heraldic Eagle. Bolender-15. PCGS graded Very Fine 25. <b>Likely dipped at one time, now pale gray patina reforming; no obvious hairlines or other signs of cleaning, and definitely no mishandling on this attractive specimen of a wide-date 1798. There are 5 berries in the branch, with the middle one attached to a leaf point; this reverse was also used on Bolender-11. The obverse has a spur on the 9 and the lowest right star points to a space between two denticles. 1798 was a year of great stress in the political situation in America. President John Adams, never a popular individual, nearly split the "factions" (political parties) asunder with his promulgation of 1798's Alien and Sedition Act. When Thomas Jefferson was elected the third president in 1800, he quickly rescinded this reviled act.
