<B>1798/97 10C 16 Stars on Reverse MS63 PCGS.</B></I> JR-1, R.3. Four varieties of the 1798 dime are known, and each merits its own listing in the <I>Guide Book.</B></I> This is likely the first of the four produced, with the underdigit 7 readily visible under an almost comically small 8, added seemingly (and most likely in fact) as an afterthought. The silver-gray surfaces of the coin bear an undertone of rose as well as a more than ample supply of luster. A few marks are visible, in line with the grade. The strike is even, unusual for an early US Mint product, with a bit of weakness most notable on the highest points of the reverse. A lack of low relief detail on the lower part of the obverse is due to die lapping and is normal for the die state.
