<B>1798/97 10C 16 Stars on Reverse MS62 PCGS.</B></I> JR-1, R.3. Four die varieties of 1798 dimes are known, and each are also listed in the <I>Guide Book</B></I>. The two overdates are easily distinguished by the reverse, having either 16 stars like this example, or 13 stars. The latter is a major rarity. The two normal date varieties are listed in the <I>Guide Book</B></I> as 1798 and 1798, Small 8. The Small 8 variety has four berries in the reverse branch and the Normal or Large 8 variety has five berries in the branch.<BR> Several Mint State examples of this 16 star overdate have been certified, with resubmissions accounting for some of the total. The centers are somewhat weak, but the surrounding details are nearly full. Full luster and faint gray color is accented by wispy champagne toning. A few tiny splashes of darker color are evident on both sides.
