1798<1C> Reverse of 1796. S-156, B-10, High R.5. VG10 NGC. VG8 EAC. S-156. B-10, High R.5. Die State I. This rare variety, another with a Type of 1795 reverse, shows slight obverse buckling. On the reverse a crack is visible through the tops of OF, but not AMERICA; from the Breen large cent Encyclopedia discussion and illustration on this point, it becomes apparent that on other coins the crack is easier to see on OF, as well. This appealing coin is on a milk chocolate-brown planchet that shows full obverse dentilation. The reverse devices are weak at NT, the right lower wreath, and ICA, the latter area showing a small dig under a glass. Further perusal shows an obverse rum bump beneath the date and a couple of light obverse planchet pits, as made. This appealing coin represents another prime opportunity for the large cent specialist. The extended Condition Census in the Breen tome for this coin, according to EAC standards, ranges from VF30 to VG8.
Ex: George Ramont (2/22/1976). Envelope Included.
