<B>1798 $1 Small Eagle, 15 Stars Fine 15 NGC.</B></I> B-2, BB-81, R.3. Die State II, as most often encountered. Previously sold as part of Bowers and Merena's June 1990 sale of the Sussex Collection, lot 686, where it was described as follows: "VF30. Quite nicely centered, especially on the reverse. Coppery gold and maroon toning in the central areas changes to a deep gunmetal-blue shade at the rims." NGC graded this piece 15 points lower than the previous cataloger, although the true grade lies somewhere in between the two opinions. Regardless of the technical grade, this 1798 Small Eagle dollar possesses much originality and eye appeal.
