1797 S-138 R1 PCGS graded MS64+ BrownBeautiful lustrous light to medium olive brown with generous traces of mint red remaining on both sides. The strike is sharp, the surfaces are satiny, and this cent has great eye appeal. The best identifying mark is a small splash of medium chocolate brown toning at the right foot of the second A in AMERICA. Essentially a flawless cent. M-LDS, Breen state VII late or VIII early, with die cracks and bulges on both sides. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#2 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS62 and tied for CC#4, his photo #28957. Our grade is MS63. In our opinion this cent is marginally superior to the two listed as MS65 in the Noyes census. This is the plate coin for the reverse in Early American Cents and for the obverse in Penny Whimsy. Comes with an unbroken provenance that can be traced back to the US Civil War era.Certificate Number: 35945.64+/57538518Pedigree: Ex Allan Collection, W.
