1797 Theatre at New York Token PR64 Brown PCGS. Breen-1055. A splendid chocolate-brown near-Gem. This well struck example has smooth and gently reflective fields. A planchet cutter mark, present before the piece was struck, is noted near the left borders. The reverse is slightly misaligned toward 3:30.
The Theatre at New York is very rare. In 1988, Breen estimated 10 to 12 examples were known. Don Scarinci presented a census of 13 pieces in the Feb. 1993 Colonial Newsletter. The token was struck in England for collector sale. The name Jacobs, present beneath the edifice on the token, represents the engraver, B. Jacobs, and not the theater's co-owner, John Jacob Astor. Listed on page 74 of the 2008 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
