Smooth glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning covering the highpoints. The surfaces are free of any defects other than the few marks left by the undertype TAL Cent that was cut down into the size of a half cent planchet and overstruck with the Cohen-2 dies. The most obvious undertype is the partial outline of the bale located by the feet of the standing figure on the TAL cent, and this shows clearly in the field at the Y and before the face of Ms. Liberty. On the reverse, the strongest undertype appears as traces of the ocean waves located above TES-OF. Weaker undertype shows in various places on both sides as well. A very attractive example of a variety that's seldom found in high grade. EAC grade VF20 and nearly choice.
