1797<H10C> V-1, LM-4, R.6. Reiver state a. 13 Stars.--Bent--NCS. VF Details. There is a small bend in the lower left obverse field which caused uneven wear from the lower part of Liberty's ribbon to her lower curl. We also note a weak area on the rim above stars six and seven and there may been something done in this area, perhaps relating to the bend in the coin. No evidence is seen on the reverse, and the devices and lettering are all sharp and show little wear. The surfaces show no other problems, and the bend, if still present, is minimal in the planchet. These tiny coins were so thin that many became bent during the hazards of circulation, greatly reducing the number of choice pieces for collectors to choose from. Even most high grade coins show a number of surface scratches or evidence of straightening, particularly so for these early half dimes. Considered a Rarity-6 for decades, although probably at the low end of that number (30 or so) known.
No pedigree information included with this coin.
