1797<1C> Reverse of 1797, Stems. S-130, B-25, R.2. VF25 NGC and EAC. Die State III. This variety shares an obverse with the S-129, the S-131, and the unique "Sheldon NC-8" (B-26). The die cracks behind Liberty's head are advanced. The reverse is another "instant recognizer," with the bow ribbon and many wreath leaves partially effaced through overzealous die polishing. On this example from late in the die state, the two cracks have partially filled in toward each other, but the resulting large crack is not yet complete all the way to the rim. This glossy, appealing example is struck slightly off center on a marginally rough, medium-brown planchet. Because of imperfect centering, the digits in the date are weak at the bottom. Examination under a glass reveals a short reverse scratch from the leaf nearest the O in ONE down to the top of C in CENT. There is a break above the dentils at R. Despite these mere trivialities, this is a desirable coin.
Ex: George Ramont (3/29/1971). Envelope Included.
