1797 1C Reverse of 1797, Stems MS63 Brown...
1797 1C Reverse of 1797, Stems MS63 Brown NGC. S-141, High R.4. This coin was just recently repatriated into this country from Europe, where it had been since 1797. It is unknown to American copper collectors and unlisted on anyone's Condition Census. The surfaces exude bright mint luster on each side with a warm overlay of colors that adds immensely to the eye appeal of this charming coin. Although labeled Brown by NGC, there is a significant amount of underlying mint red still evident. A semicircle of darker patina covers most of the left side of the obverse. Struck slightly off center, the striking details are exceptionally strong on both sides and there are no mentionable abrasions on the obverse or reverse. It will be interesting to see where this piece is placed on the Condition Census once its few defects are netted out. It may well be the finest example of this rare variety both in terms of technical grade by a major certification service as well as the finest by EAC standards. The current C.C. listed in the 17th edition of CQR is: 50--40--35--30--25--20--15. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
