1797 1C --Double Struck in Collar--Reverse of 1797, Stems VG8 PCGS. S-141, B-18, R.4. This dramatic error cent appeared as lot 563 in the Feb. 1975 Pine Tree EAC auction as part of the Dr. Conway Bolt Collection of Early Copper Mint Errors, and is cited in Walter Breen's Large Cent Encyclopedia. The dies rotated approximately 15 degrees clockwise between strikes, causing a jumble of design details. Two profiles and two bust truncations are present, and both impressions of OF and ONE CENT are legible. A few edge nicks are visible from the reverse, but the surfaces are otherwise problem-free.
