1797 10C 13 Stars AU55 NGC. JR-2, R.4. Scarcer than JR-1, the JR-2 variety is especially difficult to locate in grades above XF. This attractive example retains evidence of the original finish beneath rich copper-brown, forest-green, and lilac-gray toning. The boldly defined features are nicely centered within well defined borders. There is a large planchet lamination (as struck) on the eagle's breast, and several shallow adjustment marks are noted below Liberty's ear. Both sides are free of severe marks, but a few minor abrasions are located near the T in UNITED and along TAT in STATES, near the reverse border. The reported mintage of 25,261 dimes may have included more than 10,000 coins dated 1796, according to several numismatic authorities. At the AU55 level, only three other pieces have been so graded by NGC with one finer. PCGS has certified two coins in this grade with just two finer (7/08).
From The Beau Clerc Collection.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
