1796 TOKEN Myddelton Token, Silver PR64 PCGS. Breen-1073. English resident Philip Parry Price owned a large land holding in Kentucky, which had recently entered the Union in 1792. Myddelton planned to form a farming community there, stocked with English immigrants. He enlisted Matthew Boulton's private Soho Mint to produce pattern tokens in silver and copper. The Guide Book values both varieties equally at $20,000 in proof condition. The designs for the token are generally acknowledged as artistically superior, and among the best of the various Early American issues. Myddelton's plans for his Kentucky community went awry when he was jailed in England for his efforts. This piece is beautifully toned in electric-blue, orange, and olive tones, and is smooth aside from a few faint abrasions on the central obverse field. Listed on page 73 of the 2007 Guide Book.
From The Jones Beach Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
