1796 Silver Medal Honoring Eduard Jenner Entdecker, Discoverer of the Smallpox Vaccine AU55
Struck in Germany with a date of 14 May 1796, the date of the first successful vaccination of a human to prevent smallpox. Elaborately engraved by Friedrich Wilhelm Loos. The obverse has a portrait of Entdecker; the reverse shows an angel, child, mother, and cow from which the vaccine was derived. A beautiful allegorical design to recognize this important milestone in medical history. Weight 143.1 grains, diameter 28.5 millimeters.
