1796 S-98 R4 Draped Bust VF25+Glossy light to medium steel brown with darker steel brown and olive on the highpoints and frosty lighter brown and tan in protected areas. The toning is attractive and looks original, but this cent may have been lightly cleaned and retoned naturally over the decades. Lightly worn with no corrosion or verdigris, but there are numerous tiny planchet chips on both sides, mostly on the cheek and the opposing area at the T in CENT into the wreath below (as struck). The best identifying defect is a relatively large planchet void or chip in the field below the lower end of the hair ribbon. MDS, Breen state II, with a small die flaw at the right top of the Y and die clashmarks on both sides.. Graded EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#9 in the Bland census. Noyes says VF35 net VF25 and tied for CC#6, his photo #26164.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex Hollinbeck Kagin Coin Co.-Abe Kosoff 10/11/1961:113-Hollinbeck Kagin Coin Co., 1964 ANA Sale (Federal Brand Enterprises), lot 54-Hollinbeck Kagin Coin Co.
