1796 S-92 R3 Draped Bust F15Partly glossy dark greenish olive brown with lighter reddish brown on the obverse devices. Very fine roughness covers most of the planchet and there is a dull but obvious dent at the top of the wreath. A scuff at the bottom of the obverse weakens the lower part of the date; otherwise the legends and devices are strong. Rare TDS, Breen state V, with a strong cud break at the end of the right wreath ribbon. Graded EF45 net VF25 and tied for CC#12 overall but CC#2 of the terminal die state in the Noyes census, his photo #36458. An important example of the die state with very little actual wear, and the Dr. French provenance is a plus, but the net grade assigned by Noyes appears overly optimistic to us.Certificate Number: Pedigree: Ex Dr. George P. French, B. Max Mehl 1929 FPL, lot 111-unknown-Thomas Wolf 6/1982-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection
