1796 S-116 R5- Draped Bust PCGS graded AU53Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate with frosty lighter brown in some of the protected areas. Smooth and beautiful with light wear and superior eye appeal. No spots or stains, just trivial contact marks, mostly on the neck into the field. A thin, light diagonal nick below the left end of the wreath stem is a good identifying mark. LDS, Breen state II, with clear die clashmarks on both sides. Graded VF35 and tied for CC#1 honors in the Bland census, but his grade was a tentative placeholder until he actually had an opportunity to see the coin. Noyes did see it and graded is EF45 and CC#1 ahead of the ANS coin, his photo #28276. Our grade is EF40. Nothing else comes close. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1991 Noyes reference. Another prize for the collector of 1796 cents.Certificate Number: 35834.53/57516988Pedigree: Ex Robert E. Matthews (Matthews Money Tree Co.) 5/1990-Dr. Robert J. Shalowitz-R. E.
