1796 MEDAL Castorland Medal, Silver XF45 PCGS. Opinions differ as to whether the Castorland was a presentation piece or was indeed struck for use as coinage, but there is no question that these pieces did circulate as money, with a silver content somewhat in excess of the federal half dollar. This piece shows a trace of die rust (as struck) around the handle, but no bulging near PARENS, rendering it an original specimen. There is a good deal of detail on this coin with only slight wear visible and a hint of luster in the recesses. It is uniformly gray in color, with a couple of unobtrusive reverse digs as evidence of its 210 years of existence. Listed on pages 73 and 74 of the 2007 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
