1796 25C Fine 15 ICG. B-2, R.3. Smooth, attractive pale gray surfaces. Very well struck; the eagle's head is quite bold, which is very unusual and rare for this variety, as most specimens are weakly struck in this area. There is a trivial field mark in front of the neck on the obverse, as well as several scattered marks by the ribbons on the reverse. Overall, the coin is a well balanced specimen with great strike, color, and eye appeal, and is a thoroughly appealing example of this important classic rarity, of which only 6,146 pieces were struck. This lot comes with an insert from its former PCGS holder as Fine 15.From the John Adams Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
