<B>1796 25C Fine 12 PCGS.</B></I> High 6. B-2, R.3. The year 1796 is one filled with numismatic delicacies. At least one collector, "Mr. 1796" John Whitney Walter, made a specialty of collecting issues dated 1796. From the half cent through the eagle, every issue of the year has a special panache. The 1796 quarter occupies a unique niche, however, since it is the only silver coin of the year that is a one-year type. (The 1796 No Stars quarter eagle is also a one-year type among the gold series.) This piece offers pretty, original dove-gray toning in the centers, with some iridescent orange-gold and cerise at the rims, evidence of the untampered surfaces on this 211-year-old piece. This piece is well centered, with all of the major types bold.
