1796<1C> Draped Bust, Reverse of 1796. NC-2, B-31, R.7--Corroded--NCS. VF Details. Fine 12 EAC. This is the second finest of just nine known examples. Finest known is the Norweb coin which grades a remarkable XF45. Del Bland grades this example Fine 12 and Bill Noyes calls it VG8. Both Census takers place it as the second finest example. Walnut-brown surfaces have some ebony porosity, along with green corrosion on both sides. The surfaces are lightly scratched. A depression through the fraction and right ribbon end may be a struck-through error as opposed to later damage. Several auction appearances of this variety have taken place in recent years, although mostly of much lower grade examples. Of the top six examples, only three combined auction appearances have taken place after 1957.
Ex: 1957 ANA Sale (Federal Coin Exchange), lot 819; R.E. Naftzger, Jr. (6/1972); Denis W.
