1796<1C> Draped Bust, Reverse of 1796. S-93, B-34, Low R.3--Improperly Cleaned--NCS. XF Details. VF25 EAC. Die State V. There are a few traces of lighter copper around the devices which apparently accounts for the improperly cleaned designation, as the balance of the coin is quite pleasing in color and surface quality. Sharply struck by the dies, and well preserved. Identifiable by a tiny dig on the upper left corner of the T in LIBERTY and a short scratch from the top curl of Liberty through the R. The obverse die state has the usual lumps below Liberty's ribbon, and die cracks around ER. On the reverse a nick resides just below and right of the top pair of leaves, and another smaller nick is found below TE of STATES. The reverse die state includes the heavy die crack through the tops of RICA with a rim cud below the right ribbon end, and several complex die cracks through the fraction. An impressive example of this variety with a sterling pedigree worthy of such a delightful coin. In the Noyes Condition Census as tied for 14th with two others.
Ex: Dr. Willard J.
