1796 10C MS62 PCGS. JR-1, R.3. This is the most common of six varieties recorded for the 1796 dimes. Although at least one perfect obverse specimen is known today, in practice this variety is instantly recognized by the prominent rim cud at star 1.
A lovely Mint State piece, this example has full luster with light silver color at the center on each side. The obverse gradually changes to champagne, gold, and blue at the borders while the reverse has champagne, changing to steel and lilac peripheral toning.
A later die state, the rim cud encroaches upon three star points and covers approximately four dentils. There is a crack across the bust and prominent clash marks in the fields. The reverse die has numerous cracks itemized in the Early Dime book by David Davis, et al.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information\)
