<B>1796 $1 Small Date, Large Letters XF45 PCGS.</B></I> B-4, BB-61, R.3. Bowers-Borckardt Die State I with a largely intact forehead curl. Golden-brown, cobalt-blue, and plum-mauve embrace this attractively defined Small Eagle dollar. The eagle's belly and legs display wear, but luster emerges from Liberty's hair, the wreath, and the stars and letters. The reverse is surprisingly devoid of abrasions, and the obverse field has only a limited number of small marks. According to Bowers in his 1993 Silver Dollar Encyclopedia, only 22 to 42 examples of the BB-61 variety are in AU50 and higher grades.
