1795 S$1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves Fine 15 ICG. B-2, BB
1795 S$1 Flowing Hair, Two Leaves Fine 15 ICG. B-2, BB-20, R.3. Diagonal bar at star 4; double tail berry, outer berry at left base of I in AMERICA. The inner point of star 1 completely pierces the lowest curl, which continues to nearly close a large circle. Die State II with the obverse lapped, apparently as always. The stars on the left are somewhat thin when compared to the stars on the right. These have been called "spidery" by some numismatists. The lapping also weakens the diagonal bar in the left obverse field, although it is still visible on this example. The obverse is two-tone with pewter-gray fields and light silver devices. The reverse is mostly lighter silver in color. A short scratch from the obverse border extends down to star 11, and a few shallow surface dents are evident under the right wing. Although this variety is scarce, it is not one of the impossibly rare varieties, and is usually available with a little patience. A few Mint State examples are known, but most survivors are well worn, grading no better than VF. Like the Reiver Collection specimen, this example has the reverse die rotated about 45 degrees clockwise. It is not known how many have similar rotation, although the cataloger for the Reiver dollars stated that that example was the first he had seen with die rotation.
Ex: Evan Gale (2/2001).
From The William Luebke Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
