Of all 1795 silver dollar varieties, B-1 is clearly the most common of the Two Leaves reverse coins, while B-5 is the most common of the Three Leaves type. Cumulatively, these two varieties constitute the majority of all 1795 Flowing Hair silver dollars, and thus they are the usually chosen pieces for type or date collectors. All of the other varieties command a premium for their rarity, from slight to extreme. This B-1 variety is also popular for its blundered date, created when the die engraver initially entered the date as 1195, then correcting his blunder to read 1795. Remnants of the erroneous digit 1 are clearly visible beneath the 7. This example is struck from perfect obverse and reverse dies, apparently as always.<BR> This is an attractive dollar with light wear on the highest design points as suggested by the grade. Smooth surfaces display considerable satin luster beneath pale rose, pewter-gray, and gunmetal-blue toning. The reverse has a minor planchet lamination joined to the top of A in STATES.
