This is probably the most common die state of the variety, with a die crack extending downward slightly from the left stem end, but not reaching the border. Light grayish-silver color with pale gold toning on each side. Typical abrasions are evident on each side of this pleasing dollar. There is no doubt that the B-5 is the most common die variety of all 1795 Flowing Hair dollars. It is instantly recognized by the diagonal bar in the left obverse field near the uppermost hair curl. Although a number of examples are known in full Mint State grades, the high relief of the hair yielded quickly to slight wear.
