1795 S$1 Draped Bust, Off Center VF30 NGC.
1795 S$1 Draped Bust, Uncentered Bust VF30 NGC. B-14, BB-51, R.2. Die State I. Star 1 joins middle hair curl; paired berries below left side of first S. Perfect dies as always. The bust of Liberty was poorly placed in the obverse die, well left of center, giving an unbalanced look to the design. The silver dollars represent the first appearance of this Draped Bust motif, which was eventually utilized for all denominations of silver and copper coins. The surfaces are light silver-gray, with prominent splashes of gold toning and an excellent appearance, save for a few short scratches at LIB. Specialists generally consider this variety to be the first 1795 Draped Bust variety, although a case could be made for either variety appearing first in the emission sequence. The uncentered bust and the existence of high quality examples suggest to some that this variety was struck first. Alternatively, the reuse of the reverse die in 1796, 1797, and 1798 suggests that it may have been struck second. It is a plentiful variety that is available in just about any grade desired, including Mint State, although the typical piece is in the lower VF grade level.
Ex: Lano Balulesco (7/2001).
From The William Luebke Collection.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
