1795[S$1] Draped Bust, Off Center MS62 PCGS.
1795<S$1> Draped Bust, Off Center MS62 PCGS. B-14, BB-51, R.2. Although numerous 1795 Flowing Hair varieties are known, for the Draped Bust design of the same date there are only two die pairings. These two Bolender varieties are promptly distinguished by the placement of the punch for Liberty on the obverse die. Liberty appears to lean back on Bolender-14, which merits a separate Guide Book listing as the Off-center bust. Bolender-15 has a centered bust, and although both varieties are always available for a price in circulated condition, Uncirculated examples are very rare and are highly contested by those assembling first year of issue type sets.

This sharply struck example offers intricate details on Liberty's hair and on the eagle's wings. The eagle's breast and front leg are not fully struck, as is characteristic of the Small Eagle type. Faint slide marks in the fields are concealed by a blanket of luminous golden-brown and electric-blue patina. Some light adjustment marks on Liberty's neck are as made and do not distract. A short pinscratch on the cheek is also of little consequence. Whether one collects by Bolender variety, Guide Book variety, by date, or by type, this high grade piece would be a highlight of any early silver holding. Population: 2 in 62, 4 finer (7/04).

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
