Incorrectly labeled on the PCGS insert as an example of the Center Bust (B-15) variety. Light tan-gold visits this momentarily circulated example, which retains substantial mint luster. The surfaces are remarkably smooth and slightly subdued. Mint-made adjustment marks are prominent across the portrait. A relatively bold clashmark above the wreath (from the bust truncation) is significant, since its presence is not reported in either the Bowers (1993) or Reiver (1999) references, which presume all strikings were from perfect dies. Bolender-14 and 15 denote the first appearance of the Draped Bust motif, which ruled silver coinage through 1807.
Ex: Atlanta ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/01), lot 6383.
