1795 S$1 Draped Bust MS63 PCGS.
1795 S$1 Draped Bust MS63 PCGS.<p>Centered Bust. B-15, BB-52. Only two die pairs were used to produce this transitional issue, designed by famous portrait artist Gilbert Stuart and later engraved by Robert Scot. The first die marriage (B-14) displays an off-center bust of Liberty on the obverse. We have been fortunate to offer several Mint State examples of this date and type in the past decade, but none exceed either the quality or the appeal of this magnificent specimen. Both the obverse and reverse of this wonderfully preserved Small Eagle Dollar show a trace of reflectivity beneath lovely gray and antique-golden toning, with occasional pale violet peripheral accents. A short, paper thin mark on the bust should prove useful in future identification of this piece. The strike is simply extraordinary for the issue, with stars that display full radial lines and hair curls that are crisp and well separated. Even the eagle's feathers are quite bold except over the center of the breast and on the legs. A small cluster of adjustment marks appear diagonally over the center of the eagle, the most prominent of which extends across the top of the breast to the eagle's head. Population: 5 in 63, 7 finer (11/01). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
