1795<H10C> VF Details, Damaged NCS. V-7, LM-6, R.6. The reverse die is instantly recognized by the lack of berries beneath the left wing, either inside or outside the branch. Six obverse hair curls rounds out the attribution. This is an early die state with a crack from the rim through the digits 9 and 5 to the bust. The LM-6 variety remains an important rarity among 1795 half dimes. This example has pewter-gray surfaces with deeper steel and iridescent toning. The surfaces are quite rough with several noticeable dents on each side.
Ex: Heritage (1988 ANA Sale), lot 208. Previously from the William H.
