Similar to the die state seen on the Reiver coin with the full cud at the tops of TY and star 8, the obverse die had been lapped reducing the depth of the stars, especially star 1 which is spindly in nature. The reverse die also shows evidence of extensive lapping as seen by the almost non-existent berry 2 on the left side of the wreath. This was apparently the final variety struck of 1795 half dimes. It is also the second most frequently encountered variety with as many as 175 examples believed extant today in all grades.<BR> The preservation of the surfaces on this coin are nothing short of extraordinary. The mint luster is frosted, bright, and undiminished by the passage of more than 200 years. The centers are silvery-gray with just a touch of golden on the reverse, while the margins display broad rings of russet and cobalt-blue. Sharply defined on the obverse, the reverse shows a bit of weakness, especially on the eagle's breast and upper right (facing) wing. The only mark of note is Mint-made, a small planchet void on the right (facing) wing of the eagle.
