1795<H10C> MS61 NGC. V-1, LM-1, R.6. One of the scarcer die pairings from this popular year, and a very attractive coin for the grade. The strike is rather sharp for this variety, with minimal weakness on the high points of the design--Liberty's hair curls and the eagle's breast. Lustrous in the fields and very clean for the grade, with no distracting nicks or adjustment marks. Light silver-gray over most of the obverse, with a touch of blue and gold on the top of Liberty's head. The reverse is an even silver-gray color throughout. An early die state without the bisecting obverse die crack, but strong clash marks reside above and left of Liberty's head. This particular coin is identifiable by a tiny struck through mark on the base of Liberty's neck where it joins her chest, and a similar tiny indentation is found below the 1. On the reverse the die was apparently obstructed on and below the right side of the first A in AMERICA, making that portion of the letter and berry below weak, and this is very similar to the Logan-McCloskey plate coin for the variety. Likely well within the Condition Census for the variety of the top six known, and a delightful for the specialist.
Ex: Heritage's CSNS Sale (May, 2004), lot 6453.
