1795<H10C> AU58 NGC. V-5, LM-8, R.3. L is low and the IB in LIBERTY are distant on this variety. A die crack runs from the Y down to Liberty's nose, lightly over the face and neck, and joining the top of the 7 in the date. An early state of the obverse die, with no trace of the branching crack below the eye or from the rim through star 13, as described in the Logan-McCloskey reference. While this die pairing is readily available in all grades through Mint State, this example is noteworthy for its technical quality and aesthetic allure. No adjustment marks are seen on either side. Both sides radiate much luster underneath light rose-lilac and heather-blue patina. The reverse die is considerably rotated, bringing some of the reverse highpoints nearer their obverse counterparts and resulting in some central strike weakness on that side. A couple of light contact marks require a loupe to discern. A lovely and unassailably nice, near-Mint State specimen of this early and historic coinage.
From The Royal Oak Collection.
