1795 Engraving Lord Howe's Victory Engraving, Lord Howe's Victory On The Glorious First of June
<B> Engraving, "Lord Howe's Victory On The Glorious First of June 1794"</B></I> , 22.5" x 18.5", engraved and published by Daniel Orme, London, October 1, 1795. "Victory" is perhaps too generous a term for Lord Howe's achievement. His chance encounter with a French merchant fleet and their naval escort promised a rich prize indeed. Howe inflicted heavy losses on the French forces, however the merchantmen - his main objective - escaped to safe ports. The scene portrayed aboard Howe's flagship is heavy with drama and beautifully rendered in bold colors. Very Fine condition. In gilt wooden frame, 32.0" x 28 1/2".
