1795 50C 3 Leaves Fine 15 ICG
1795 50C 3 Leaves Fine 15 ICG. O-111, High R.4. This is the famous 1795 Three Leaves variety, with triple leaf clusters inside the wreath below each wing. It stands as an important Guide Book variety, and it is considered by some to be a separate design type. Just a single reverse die is known to represent this type, and it was combined with only one obverse die, thus O-111 is the only Three Leaves die variety. The obverse die is also distinctive, with the date sharply recut, the first impression nearly touching the border.
A heavy curved die crack from the border through the left side of the first S continues through the wreath, the eagle's wing, and the eagle's body, to the uppermost tailfeather. The area above this crack is on a higher plane. Note that the wing and breast feathers below the crack are nicely detailed and those above the crack are entirely flat.
Both sides have the usual minor blemishes on pleasing pewter-gray surfaces with deeper gold, blue, and iridescent toning that outlines the devices and hugs the borders. Full borders are evident on the obverse and reverse with a smattering of faint adjustment marks along the reverse border.
Haseltine-23; Beistle 4-H; Overton-27; Hilt 16-Y; PCGS# 6053; Encyclopedia-4563.
Ex: Robert Zornes.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
