1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 PCGS
1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 PCGS. O-129a, R.5. S over D in STATES. A similar die blunder is found on the 1795 half eagles, the latter listed as a separate Guide Book variety.
The obverse appears to be perfect, apparently as always. The reverse has a crack from the border over the second A to the left side of M. An even heavier die crack begins at the lower border between the ribbons to the knot and rock, eventually crossing the field and the eagle's head toward the left terminal leaf and upper boarder. This crack is broad and indistinct at places. The reverse also has heavy clash marks, some that are difficult to distinguish from other possible die cracks. The diagnostic heavy oblong die defect is especially strong between the D and first S on this later die state. Stephen Herrman does not list any auction or mail bid records for the O-129a. Aside from the late die state, and just considered as an O-129, this piece just misses the Condition Census.
A pretty and pleasing medium silver-gray piece with considerable gold tint, this example is well centered and shows no major impairments, although a few light adjustment marks show on the reverse. A small planchet void is located just to the left of the 1 in the date.
Haseltine-13; Beistle 13-Sa; Overton-62; Hilt 13-J; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4557.
Ex:Dallas Signature (Heritage,10/2006), lot 1115.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
