1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 NGC. O-105a, R.4. The die crack through B does not continue all the way to the top of Liberty's head, although it is also possible that Overton's description is not entirely accurate. The crack through star 15 is noticeably stronger on this piece than the O-105. Each of the reverse cracks are also better developed than the O-105. Considerably scarcer in this state than the usual 105. Only 14 auction appearances of this die state are recorded by Stephen Herrman, and survivors range from VG 8 to AU58, placing this among the finer of the known specimens, perhaps fourth or fifth best of the late die states..
The gray-russet surfaces have an overlay of lilac on each side. Well struck for the grade, the only mentionable abrasion is a scrape above the rock to the left of the eagle's leg. A thin vertical scratch on the obverse reveals a touch of bright silver through the toning.
Haseltine-8; Beistle 8b-Bc; Overton-13; Hilt 17-O; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4560.
Ex: Heritage (via eBay, 6/2000).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
