1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 NGC
1795 50C 2 Leaves XF45 NGC. O-102, R.4. Early Die State. The obverse is struck from the same die as O-101. According to the Overton reference, "in this marriage a fine die crack is usually visible from the near end of bust to milling, just left of star 15." However, more Early Die State coins are known than the later state that is mentioned in Overton. This example does not show any trace of the die crack below star 15. In fact, the only die crack that is visible bisects the E in LIBERTY. The reverse is distinctive among the 1795's and shows a unique 9-8 berry arrangement with one berry on the outside of the wreath on the right side. The finest O-102 halves that are listed by Stephen Herrman are graded AU55 and AU50. Three XF45 coins are listed but represent only two different coins, and this piece is different from either of those examples.
The most distinctive physical feature on this coin is a circle of darker color on the cheek of Liberty. Otherwise, each side has even pinkish-lilac toning on both sides. Magnification shows a few light die adjustment marks over the obverse, and there are a few mint-caused streaks of grease that were struck into the upper reverse of the coin. The reverse devices also show a faint glow of luster that outlines the devices. Another rare early variety and one of the finer pieces known.
Haseltine-1; Beistle 1-A; Overton-2; Hilt 20-S; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4560.
Ex: Harry Laibstain (1999).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
