1795 50C 2 Leaves XF40 NGC. O-119, R.4. Star 1 pierces
1795<50C> 2 Leaves XF40 NGC. O-119, R.4. Star 1 pierces the lowest hair curl, which is "frayed out," as Overton-Parsley puts it. Star 2 is close to the second curl, and a die defect lump is seen near the point of the neck and star 15. On the reverse there are nine berries on each side of the wreath, the only 1795 reverse with this arrangement. Two die defect lines run from the eagle's right (facing) wing, one joining the top of the E and the other joining another defect at the top serif of R. The I in UNITED is recut.
This appealing XF example shows pretty pinkish-gray surfaces with tinges of iridescent blue. The piece is well-centered, but the obverse dentilation is weak from 12 to 2 o'clock. At XF40, this piece likely narrowly misses the Condition Census.
From The Tide Collection.
