1795 50C 2 Leaves VF35 PCGS. O-107a, R.5. Late dies for this scarce variety. The bisecting reverse die crack is now heavy throughout except where it passes through the eagle's body and right (facing) wing. The die crack is wide at its 2:30 origin, where it encompasses two dentils, and is close to the terminal state described by Overton with "three segments of milling [joined] at the starting point between OF and A."
The obverse die state is similar to that of O-106 and O-107, but the ridge is less evident between the date digits and star 12. The die cracks at 12 and 5 o'clock are plain.
This is a pleasing Choice VF example. The obverse is mottled golden-brown and forest-green with gunmetal-gray on the highpoints. The reverse is cream-gray with hints of aqua and russet. The lower reverse has a few faint adjustment marks, as made, and a curved thin mark is present above Liberty's shoulder. A couple of tiny specks of verdigris cling to protected areas of the reverse.
Haseltine-28; Beistle 1b-E; Overton-17; Hilt 20-U; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4560.
Ex: Alpine Numismatics (February 2004).
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
