1795<50C> 2 Leaves. O-123, Low R.7. VF35 NGC. A leaf separates IC in AMERICA and immediately identifies this decidedly rare marriage. In the 1990 revision of the Overton reference, this variety was considered R.6. However, just nine examples are known, thus the Low R.7 designation. A bold die crack connects the second S in STATES to the widely spaced OF, and continues in fainter form to the rim at 2 o'clock. Several clear die lines are noted in Liberty's central left curls. The dusky battleship-gray surfaces are pleasantly unmarked, and only the breast feathers demonstrate thorough wear. The present piece is not the finest known, since Stephen J. Herrman lists an MS63 example in his Spring 2005 auction survey. The next best example listed by Herrman is a mid-range VF, the Overton plate coin, and quite similar in quality to the Reiver Collection coin.
Ex: J.J.
