1795 50C 2 Leaves Fine 15 PCGS. O-117 prime, R.4. Overton stated that the field was unfinished below the chin; however, it may be the case that the rough lines he examined are actually clash marks from the eagle's wing. See O-121 below for a similar appearance. This is an early die state without any evidence of the crack from 5 o'clock to the bust. Although this obverse die was only used for O-117, the reverse proved more hardy and was eventually paired with three other obverse dies.
Deep gunmetal-gray in color, lighter on the major devices than in the fields. Minor marks are near star 3 and the nose; the reverse shows no relevant marks but the center exhibits greater wear than the remainder of the piece.
Haseltine-11; Beistle 11-P; Overton-37; Hilt 10-E; PCGS# 6052; Encyclopedia-4553.
Ex: Paul Padget (7/28/1981); Jules Reiver (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 22498.
From The Westmoreland County Collection of Early Bust Halves, 1794-1807.

Coin Engraver: Robert Scot

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
